After months of wait, Apple finally announced its 2018 iPhone lineup. iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are the new successors to the iPhone X.
The new iPhone’s offer enhancement in performance, display, camera, battery life, and many other aspects. So here’s everything you need to know about the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.
iPhone XS inherits design aesthetics from its predecessor coupled with few fine refinements.
The smartphones have an entire metal and glass construction and the device looks premium. These two iPhone’s come with IP68 water and dust resistance and are available in gold, silver, and space grey colour variants.
Despite the increment in screen sizes the new iPhone still retains a compact form-factor.
While the iPhone XS Max sports a humungous 6.5-inch super retina HDR OLED display with a resolution of 2688 x 1245 pixels. The new iPhone’s come with one of the best OLED panels in the entire smartphone industry.
Furthermore, the 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio makes the colors more vibrant and watching content on iPhone XS is a pleasure to eyes.
Both the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max are powered by the A12 bionic processor coupled with M12 motion co-processor and a neural engine.
The A12 bionic is a 64-bit six-core processor. Well, the two performance cores tackle heavy computational tasks and four efficiency cores take on everyday tasks.
Apple claims that the A12 processor is up to 15% faster and consumes up to 50% lower power as compared to the A11 bionic processor.
The new four-core M12 motion co-processor is up to 50% faster as compared to the A11 bionic processor. Apart from that, the new neural engine helps in advanced, real-time machine learning.
Consequently, iPhone XS can recognize patterns, make predictions, and learn from experience. Lastly, A12 bionic is the world’s first 7nm based mobile processor that will reach masses.
As for storage, both the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max will be available in 64GB, 128GB, and 512GB storage variants.
The new iPhone’s offer drastic improvements in terms of camera performance. The new iPhone XS sports a 12MP wide-angle sensor with f/1.8 aperture and telephoto sensor with f/2.4 aperture.
Camera module also includes dual optical image stabilization, optical zoom, six‑element lens, and quad-LED true tone flash.
Apart from improvements in hardware, Apple has equally focused on image processing and software aspects.
The neural engine and image signal processor automatically adjust every minute camera settings to deliver the most pleasing results.
Furthermore, faster sensors and zero shutter lag help preserve details in highlights and shadows. iPhone XS also offers improvements in portrait mode and users can now adjust the depth of field even after clicking photos.
The sensor on iPhone XS captures a number of images at different exposures, neural engine analysis these photos and combines them to offer perfect results.
Lastly, Smart HDR takes smartphone photography to a new horizon by combining and analyzing even more images. There are major improvements in video-recording capabilities as well.
iPhone XS now offer a better dynamic range and improved auto-focus and auto-exposure for videos. Moreover, users can now record 4k footage at 60fps. The smartphone also records slow-mo videos at 1080 resolution and 240fps.
Lastly, the iPhone XS records stereo audio using the four built-in mics.
iPhone XS will be the first iPhone that supports dual-SIM through the use of a nano-SIM and digital eSIM(found on iPad’s). Apple claims, that the second generation FaceID is more fast and accurate.
For wireless connectivity, iPhone XS offers 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac with MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC with reader mode, GPS with GLONASS.
There are slight improvements in battery life and charging speeds on the new iPhones. The iPhone XS includes Face ID, Barometer, Three‑axis gyro, Accelerometer, Proximity sensor, and Ambient light sensors.
iPhone XS will run on iOS 12 out of the box and will rely on gestures for its operation.
The Apple iPhone XS will start at a price of US$ 999 and the iPhone XS Max will retail for a price of US$ 1,099. These will be available in more than 30 countries and territories from September 21st with pre-orders starting tomorrow, September 14th.
These new iPhone’s will launch in India starting from September 21st starting at Rs. 99,900 and Rs. 109,900 respectively.
